Machine Learning Engineer
Chewy
Satyam Mittal works on reliability in agentic RAG: using retrieval uncertainty, generation uncertainty, and calibrated risk control to decide when a system should answer, escalate to a stronger model, or abstain. The same question, what should a system show, and when should it hold back drives his work on educational recommendation, including an IEEE Access survey of course recommenders in the LLM era and Dotaiz, an early project for discovering open educational content. He builds production multi-agent ML systems serving customer-facing traffic at enterprise scale, and holds an M.S. in Computer Science from California State University, Fresno.

When RAG gets It wrong: Detecting hallucinations and controlling risk
RAG systems can retrieve relevant information and still generate incorrect or unsupported answers. As AI applications move into production, engineers need reliable ways to detect these failures and determine when a model should respond, escalate, or abstain. Drawing on research into educational recommendation systems and risk-controlled Agentic RAG, this session explores how retrieval uncertainty, generation uncertainty, and statistical calibration can improve the reliability of AI-generated responses. Key takeaways: → Identifying hallucinations and measuring uncertainty across retrieval and generation → Designing risk-based controls to determine when models should answer, escalate, or abstain → Applying these techniques to educational recommendations and other evidence-grounded AI applications
